Mahamandaleswara Pujya Swami Abhishek Chaitanya Giri ji Maharaj- Course Director
Swamiji was ordained as the Mahamandaleshwar on March 9th, 2013.
Born into a humble middle class family, Br. Abhishek Chaitanyaji-ji attended the “normal” Indian system of schooling and college. However, soon after graduating from Bombay University his intense love for the spiritual, which was always just below the surface, steered him to join the Vedanta course at the Chinmaya Mission. From 1996-1998, after successfully completing the rigorous Vedanta course, he was posted as the Acharya at the Chinmaya Mission of Pune. There he directed many spiritual classes and camps for people of all ages, from children to adults. His love of spirituality spread beyond Pune through discourses and Jnana Yajnas held in nearby towns.
Upholding the Scriptural teachings to serve humanity in all ways, Swamiji was very active in the Chinmaya Mission Relief Group that assisted the cyclone hit areas of Orissa and he played an engaging role in helping the flood victims of the state. He then transferred as the Acharya to the Chinmaya International Residential School in Coimbatore. There he represented the Mission as the school’s ex officio of management and took a close interest in implementing the specially developed educational program in the school. He also acted as a counsellor to students, parents and staff and had numerous opportunities to conduct spiritual classes for teachers, as well as students from all grades levels.
After 2002, burning with a desire to learn more, both for his own fulfilment and to be as effective of a teacher as he possibly could be, he chose to study Vedantic and Bhakti texts in the traditional way, leaving the Chinmaya Mission with their blessings. Staying in Vrindavan he studied under Masters such as Swami Vishvatmanandaji, a senior disciple of Pujya Swami Akhandanandaji, and Shri Rajaramji Shastri of the Shri Ranganath Mandir. His next stop in this wonderful journey was Kashi, where he lived and served under Dandi Tambe Swami ji. There he continued learning and achieved Sadhana. He served Pujya Dandi Swami Hansanandaji Maharaj of Rishikesh and got a firm grounding of Vedantic teachings while living with him. Presently he is based in Kashi where he continues his learning of the higher Vedantic texts from Pujya Shri Divya Chaitanyaji Maharaj. Vedanta being what it is, he continues to study even as he teaches.
He is one of the most spiritual masters in Rishikesh. Swamiji also spends time spreading Yogic knowledge to European and South East Asian countries in his travels there.
